Storage space, and the work of keeping it clean.
C R Storage Limited operates warehousing and storage facilities from Oldbury in the West Midlands. Alongside letting the space, the company carries out the general cleaning of the units and the premises around them — the sweeping out between lets, the shared routes in and out, and the yard.
Not sure what size you need? The sizer below works it out from what you actually have to put away.
Unit sizes side by side
These are the standard size bands the trade plans against, given so you can picture the space before you ring round. Which of them is free at the depot on any given week is a question for the email below.
| Band | Floor area | Roughly comparable to | Typically holds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Locker | 25 sq ft | A large wardrobe | Cases, files, seasonal bits and a few boxes |
| Small | 50 sq ft | A single garden shed | The contents of a room, or a small flat cleared out |
| Medium | 75 sq ft | A modest box room | A one-bedroom flat, furniture included |
| Large | 100 sq ft | A single garage | A two-bedroom house, or pallets kept to one side |
| Extra large | 150 sq ft | A garage and a half | A three-bedroom house, or a working stock holding |
| Warehouse bay | 200 sq ft and upwards | A double garage or more | Palletised goods, trade stock, fit-out materials |
How the sizer arrives at its answer
Nothing clever happens. A medium box is taken as three cubic feet, a bulky item as thirty, and a pallet as sixty. Those are added up, the total is divided by a stacking height of six feet to give a floor area, and a further third is added on so there is room to walk in and reach the back. The answer is rounded up to the next band in the table.
Also handled on site
The cleaning side of the business exists because the storage side needs it. It is carried out on the company’s own units and premises.
- Sweeping and clearing units between one hire and the next, so the space is handed over empty and dry.
- Cleaning of corridors, stairs and the shared routes people use to reach their unit.
- Yard and loading-area upkeep, including keeping the approach clear for vehicles.
- Clearing away packaging and waste left behind at the end of a hire.
- Washing down doors, shutters and frames as part of routine premises maintenance.
- Checking units after cleaning for damp, damage or anything left in place.
Depot and enquiries
Email is the way in. Say roughly what you have, when you would want it in, and whether you need vehicle access to the door — that is usually enough to answer in one reply.
